Certified Backflow Compliance

Protect your clean water supply. Stop contamination at the source.
Backflow prevention is mandatory for many commercial and industrial sites under Sydney Water regulations.

The Plumbing Paramedics are fully accredited to test, install and maintain certified backflow prevention devices.
Our plumbers service the Hills District and surrounding suburbs, ensuring your business meets NSW health and plumbing compliance.

Businesses and facilities that handle chemicals, wastewater or are connected to variable-pressure supply lines are legally required to have backflow prevention devices.

Failure to maintain this can result in fines, disconnection and public health violations.

What is Backflow?

Backflow occurs when a change in water pressure causes contaminated water to flow backwards into the drinking water system. This often happens during bursts, firefighting activity, or when a cross-connection exists between clean and dirty water systems.

Without a tested and functioning backflow device, your property could be releasing harmful substances such as faecal matter, grease, pesticides or industrial waste back into the main water network.

NSW Health and Sydney Water enforce mandatory testing to minimise this public health risk. Properties found non-compliant during routine audits can face water supply restrictions or disconnection, along with cost recovery for any damages or investigative work.

Our Backflow Process

The Plumbing Paramedics follow a precise, regulation-aligned process to protect your site:

  1. Site risk categorisation and device recommendation
  2. Installation of the appropriate device (e.g. RPZ valve, double-check valve, air gap)
  3. Testing and certification on completion
  4. Submission of compliance documentation to Sydney Water
  5. Set up of annual testing schedule and reminders
  6. Emergency servicing and repair when faults are detected

You receive complete documentation and assurance that your property is safe, compliant and future-proofed against penalties or shutdowns.

Stay Compliant. Protect Your Supply. Avoid Costly Fines.

Backflow is more than just an inconvenience, it’s a liability. Trust a team that understands the laws, knows the systems, and delivers watertight compliance for your site.
We provide full servicing and device management programs for ongoing peace of mind.

Frequently Asked BackFlow Prevention Questions

Pipe relining is a modern and effective solution, but it’s normal to have questions. Here are some of the most common queries we get about the process.

Backflow happens when there’s a sudden change in water pressure — usually from a burst main, high demand, or faulty connection. This reversal allows contaminated water to flow back into the clean water supply. Common sources include hose connections, faulty irrigation systems, or fixtures like bidets without backflow protection.

Yes. Under Sydney Water and the Plumbing Code of Australia, any commercial or high-risk site must install and regularly test an approved backflow prevention device. Annual certification by a licensed plumber is mandatory to stay compliant and avoid penalties or supply disconnection.

Yes. Bidets, especially those with spray nozzles or integrated jets, can pose a high contamination risk if connected directly to mains water. Backflow prevention such as a dual-check valve or RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) valve is required by NSW law to protect against dirty water re-entering the drinking supply.

In NSW, testing is required at the time of installation and every 12 months thereafter. Only licensed and certified backflow plumbers can perform these tests. Documentation must be lodged with Sydney Water after each inspection.

If your property doesn’t meet the required standard during an audit, Sydney Water may issue a notice, restrict your water supply, or disconnect it until you pass inspection. You may also be charged the cost of investigation or remediation. Regular maintenance and testing can prevent these issues.
