Expert AWTS Plumbers for Semi-Rural Properties

Living on acreage or in a semi-rural part of the Hills District often means your property isn’t connected to Sydney Water’s main sewer system. Instead, your home may rely on an Aerated Wastewater Treatment System (AWTS) to safely treat and disperse household wastewater.
At The Plumbing Paramedics, we’re licensed and experienced in the installation, servicing and repair of all major AWTS systems, keeping your home safe, sanitary and council-compliant.

What Is an AWTS?

An AWTS is a small-scale, onsite sewage treatment system that uses controlled aeration to break down blackwater (toilet waste) and greywater (kitchen, laundry, bathroom).
Unlike older septic tanks, these systems treat wastewater through multiple stages, aeration, clarification, and disinfection.
Then this water is safely releasing treated water into designated irrigation areas.

They’re ideal for:

  • Acreage homes
  • Hobby farms
  • Lifestyle blocks
  • Bushland or environmentally sensitive areas
  • Properties without town sewer access

Our AWTS Services Include:

  • New system design and installation to meet property needs and site layout
  • Quarterly servicing and maintenance in line with NSW Health regulations
  • Pump and blower replacements
  • Alarm diagnostics and fault repair
  • Chlorine dosing or UV disinfection unit servicing
  • Blocked line clearing and irrigation inspections
  • Council reporting and logbook completion
  • De-sludging preparation and tank inspection

Need a Plumber You Can Rely On?

NSW Legal Requirements for AWTS Owners

Under NSW Health guidelines, all AWTS systems must be serviced by a licensed technician every 3 months, with service records maintained and submitted to your local council (e.g., Hills Shire Council). Failure to comply can result in environmental fines and contamination of local waterways or groundwater.

The Plumbing Paramedics are licensed to service AWTS systems and submit mandatory reports on your behalf. We handle everything — from documentation to disinfection — with zero hassle.

Why Professional AWTS Servicing Matters

A poorly maintained AWTS can result in:

  • System overflow or irrigation failure
  • Foul odours near the home
  • Dangerous bacteria in water runoff
  • Pollution of soil, creeks and bore water
  • Expensive fines and costly repair bills

Our regular servicing checks aerators, filters, pumps, chlorinators and sludge levels to ensure your system remains efficient, compliant and odour-free.

Servicing Acreage & Rural Properties in the Hills District

We regularly maintain AWTS systems across:

  • Dural
  • Glenorie
  • Kenthurst
  • Annangrove
  • Galston
  • Box Hill
  • Maraylya
  • Middle Dural

Whether it’s an urgent repair or your quarterly service is due, The Plumbing Paramedics are trusted by Hills District residents to keep wastewater systems running cleanly and quietly.
